I've been working for the past several weeks on a new recording rig for the trio. As I mentioned...

I've been working for the past several weeks on a new recording rig for the trio. As I mentioned elsewhere, I really wanted to get away from mixing multi-track recordings and just go directly from the board to a stereo recorder.

It's not quite that simple, though...

I have three feeds from the board:

1) Guitar and bass to the PA.
2) All instruments to a recorder.
3) All instruments *plus* room mics to a second recorder.

We play in a small room, so the drums are strictly acoustic. The guitar and bass both go directly to the PA (no amps). I have an EQ on the PA feed to tone down some troublesome bass and low-midrange frequencies resulting from the size and shape of the room.

The drums get mixed with guitar and bass on a separate pair of busses. The kick and snare get some light dynamics processing. The snare and toms get some ambience added to give the drum kit a sense of "being in a room".

The first recorder - the one that gets the instrument mix without the room mics - is set up to automatically start recording a new track when we start playing, and to stop shortly after we finish playing. The drum mics can "hear" the room, so even when we're careful about not playing until we're ready to start a tune, loud conversation can still trigger the recorder. It's easy to scan through the finished tracks and discard the resulting short tracks. So with that small amount of editing plus fifteen minutes or so spent scanning the tracks and adding titles, we have a complete set of recordings ready to burn to CD.

The second recorder hears everything the first recorder hears, plus the room mics. The room mics are ducked, though, so they're out of the mix as soon as we start playing. That way, the second recorder gets a clean recording of the music *plus* the conversation between tunes. Once in a while it's useful for us to hear those conversations. Also, this feed may end up going to a live stream that we can advertise to people who want to hear us perform.

Both recording feeds have a compressor to smooth out the dynamic peaks (giving the recording a somewhat higher average volume) and a limiter to protect the recorders against digital overs.

We spent most of our time last night (we only get together for two hours every other week) dialing in the system: setting up levels, EQ, dynamics and ambience. I think we only ended up with one complete tune recorded (plus a bunch of fragments from checking various settings). The playback sounded really good, though.

I'm thinking that after a couple more rehearsals (giving us a chance to confirm the system settings and get accustomed enough to working with the robo-recorder that it doesn't distract us), I'll have some recordings that I'll be willing to post.

Last night's session was, for me, a big relief. I spent weeks designing and building this system, not knowing for sure how it'd turn out. If my intuitions had been wrong, this would have been a very expensive failed experiment.

ok, i'm not really on a building ledge looking down, it's a metaphor!

what i mean is that i'm going through my yearly or bi-yearly cycle of hating my gear. i don't know what happens to me, maybe it's having money to spend that makes me ask myself if i'm really happy with what i have.

my gear purchases start like this:

if i'm broke:
i think about "most bang for the buck", then buy the best thing (used) that i can for under $500....then i spend time convincing myself and others that it's great.

when i have money:
i think "i'm a freaking pro, why am i settling?" i then proceed to pick apart what i hate about my current gear. then i start the search for the newest/best thing i want. once i pick out the thing i have-to-have, buyers regret sinks in and i start thinking that maybe i should be getting more bang for the buck. if i wait several weeks/months to make a purchase, i usually get back to step 1 of being broke and settling again. each time i settle, i end up with better gear though.

and finally, if i buy something quick while i have the money....i end up selling it later because i need the money or because i hate having so much gear that doesn't get enough play time.

the back story; i was raised very poor. though i own my own company now and business is good, i must still have that poverty mentality i guess.

help me doctor, friend, anybody?

snarf is what my buds use to call the sound a cascaded tube amp makes when you hit a harmonic squeal. that's the one thing i miss about tubes. i haven't found ANY modeler that can do it. if you don't know what i'm talking about, check out this video at about 6:25

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZIZp2aUcBo

i had a rocktron piranha that just belched out that tone easily....why did i get rid of it? i went through 4 of them, but i just couldn't get the overall eq where i wanted it....so they had to go. then i started missing the snarf, and i would buy another one. here i am again, missing the snarf and wanting tubes just to give me that fix.

i had a V3 a few years ago, but sold it because it was really too heavy to lug around to church for 4 songs on sunday morning. i may get a V3m shortly if the GAS doesn't stop.

anybody else know of amps or modelers that deliver that sound?

here's an old clip 2009 for so of me using an rp500 doing the brown sound thing. came across it today and thought of all our discussions on RP versus Hd versus 11r. The Spanish Fly inspired section has a decent shimmer tone where I rolled down the volume and the RP responded well to cleaning up a bit. all effects here are stock rp500 as well. I don't use this tone much these days as I favor a differ sim (2101 sat instead of the or120 used here) but I thought this a decent clip of the RP tone. end bit is actually my echo park though

2) old marshall jtm45 or other nice gritty jangly distortion. SRV without needing a distortion pedal.
3) nice brown high gain distortion (must clean up when guitar volume rolled back) EVH balance cd tone.
4) volume boost for brown channel.

Guys,

Ive been experimenting with the True Z on the 11R and while it does an incredible job @ mimicking the feel of a real amp with volume control i do find it a be a bit of a pain (not a lot just a tiny bit) when it comes to high gain amp models and tones.

When using a high gain amp model (not sure but the M2 for instance), it works well as long as your playing with normal picking technique, the second you roll down your volume for it to clean up a bit, it cuts out and you can't get those gentle notes. I have only noticed this on the higher amp gain models not on the mid-gain/cunchier tones. Has anyone else experienced and picked up on this as well??

Any thoughts would be great!! Alternatively is there a way to turn off the True Z for some patches? Forgive me i need to spend more time with the manual :)

Thanks
Jake

I have a RP500. I´d like to know from those of you who have an RP and an amp to compare with, how accurate do the volumen, gain and tone settings correspond to each other.

Years ago back in the eraly nineties I remember there being quite a stir about some kid a lot of people kept saying was Hendrix reincarnated, which I don't believe in by the way! Anyhow I forgot his name and just forgot about it. The other day I was on youtube and came across the guy after all these years. They had a couple of top twenty hits in 1991 from his debut album. The dude has some serious chops, plays a right handed strung guitar upside down left handed, quite well I might add. I've seen many guys that I thought sounded close to Jimi, they were all white guys which didn't really matter . The kid even looks like jimi and dresses like he did which I don't have a problem with that. SRV did it and so did a few other dudes too. In this first vid ,is either 17 or 18 years of age but plays which such passion and ferocity that he sounds like a much more mature player, started when he was 4 years old, second video is I believe from 2010. I don't understand why this guy isnt well known, could easily hang with the likes of Joe Banamassa and many others. Was especially blown away near the end of the vid when he gets a bit crazier!!!!

I may want one for my country band and maybe for a new metal project I have in the works. I had a GR33 a long time ago and have also had the VG8, which I liked a lot better than the GR33.

Primarily, I would be looking for acoustic guitar, banjo, piano, violin (fiddle as the country folk call it) and banjo. But, I would NOT want to take multiple rigs to a show, so I would also want it to do a decent job modeling electric guitar sounds as well.

I think Saturday I am going to spend some time at GC demoing one. What do you guys think of the tracking, especially anyone who has owned previous synths.

What are some, if any, bothersome or quirky issues you have encountered with it?

Having a guitar synth that was put to really good use would take my band to a seriously better level as far as our sound is concerned. We, in my opinion, sound a little to much like a rock band playing country songs. Adding some "fake authentic" sounds would remedy that.

So many other things going on. I don't have a lot of energy left over to pour into it. Since I've been completely content with my little Blackstar rig I haven't been paying much attention to the newest or upcoming MFX gear.

I'm always lurking around perusing the various threads, and it seems there is a real lull in MFX news lately. Is there anything particularly cool coming soon? Anyone heard or read anything about the next new thing(s)? Did the AxeFX II and 11R make everything else moot? ;)

Curious. What's new?

So it's not just my band - lets get that out of the way up front - there are maybe five or six...

So it's not just my band - lets get that out of the way up front - there are maybe five or six bands that do concerts for NASCAR fans in in the various campgrounds around Charlotte Motor Speedway each May in what's known as "Speed Week" (the week following the All Star Race and leading up to the Coca Cola 600.) We've been the "house band" at our particular campground for 6 years - this would be our seventh but we decided to take a break due to family commitments this year (singer's wife expecting a baby, my son graduating from high school the night of the annual big concert, etc.)

Anyway, here's the point: the owner of the speedway has his son as the GM of the complex and he's become a bit of a fan of our band, at least through second hand accounts. I don't think he's ever seen us but we have reports from speedway staff meetings that campers at our area have emailed him about how much they appreciate the band every year and thanked HIM for bringing us in to entertain them. (It's actually Motor Racing Outreach but he has to allow this kind of activity). Anyway, he has actually read an email from our fans in his staff meeting and is stated to have said "NOW THAT'S WHAT WE NEED MORE OF AROUND HERE!" ... which leads to my point: Today an email came through stating that the speedway management has pulled the plug on all campground concerts friday- sunday (the prime time for all of them) and my sources inside the management tell me it's because they have decided to bring in some national acts and hold their own ticketed concerts - all our pals can't hold their own shows as it might distract from the official (read "money events") they are going to hold.

It's almost as if we've all done so well that the big guys decided "Hey - wait a minute - we can get in on this and make some $$$!" Some were angry but not me , it's actually a kind of backhanded compliment in a way!

Too funny! We've worked ourselves out of a job!

I have a TLST already, but whilst it sounds great, and is fine for a mini-gig where you only need a few tones, it's simply too basic for any proper gigging. The functionality, FX options, and parameters are way too limiting, it has no FX loop, no patch-naming, No MIDI, no 'fast scroll' facility via foot control, and no stomp box capability.

I looked at the TLEX and had one on loan that I could have bought for way less than the street price. I tried to like it, I really did - but it just wasn't suitable for my gigging needs. It's what the TLST should have been, and I expected Vox to bring out a much better unit for gigging than the TLEX. Yes, it sounds pretty good and in its favour were the excellent Energizer effect and 2nd pedal section, its stomp box capability and bright tuner display, and adjustable EQ in Line-out mode.

But it still had no patch-naming faciliies (what the heck's the point of having 100 user memories if you don't know what & where your patches are!!) - quite simply THE biggest failing of the unit. On top of that, it's a clumsy operation to move in/out of stomp mode - you have to press TWO pedals simultaneously, which is awkward and clumsy. Whichever engineer thought that up frankly needs his butt kicking. Going into stomp mode should be smooth and easy via a single pedal. The unit still as no FX loop, so you can't insert another effect in to it, or use 4 cable method, & still no MIDI. The parameters are still limited, although at least you have dedicated delay and modulation sections now.

In short, it's not as good as it should have been - for me it's not fully suitable for gigging, and isn't a sufficient upgrade to the TLST.

I considered the TLSE - & I specifically liked its A/B channel switching & 2 foot pedals. But downsides were that there is no EQ control in line-out, modeling is still 20 bit, and it's just too darned big and heavy.

So, I settled on the TLLE and I'm really pleased with my decision. The pedal is a sensible size & weight (I got a nice padded Gator bag for it - perfect fit plus pouch for leads), it has patch naming, 24 bit processing, excellent parameter controls with lots of reverb, delay & modulation options, an FX loop, MIDI, SP/DIF, stereo outs and a single pedal operation to go in/out of stomp mode. I'm using it via Line 2 (adjustable EQ) through the FX returns of my amps (Laney Cub 12R, Laney VC30, Marshall Valvestate 8080 Mk1) - and it sounds really great through all of them.

Re modeling quality, the first amp model I try is the Bassman because its such a complex sounding amp that's so difficult to model with its bassy growl/break-up and bright top end. The TLLE just nails it. It may not be up there with the Pod HD500 (which I looked at, but just too darned complex to use) or Axe-FX (ridiculously expensive) but it will do me just fine! the rest of the modeling is equally very good and whilst the higher gain amp models in the TLST/TLEX might just have the edge, I can get darned close with some careful EQ adjustment.

The TLLE is immaculate & it only cost me £100 plus £10 delivery. And at that price I think its unbeatable value. I plan to do some you-tube demo's over the next month or two, so keep an eye open on my 'voxman5' site.;)

Marshall Guv'nor Plus GV-2

What a sleeper! Picked this up over a week ago, and now the other OD's are in the drawer. Just an excellent boost, overdrive & distortion pedal with a well designed range of tone controls to adjust the overall character of the distortion.

At low gain for boost mode I love the smooth solidity and weight it gives to the tone. The tone controls get the job done for different flavors & guitars, and there's ample gain for a variety of light and heavier distortion tones. I'm impressed that it doesn't impart an edgy signature on everything - most distortion pedals I've tried have a bit of grit to them regardless of the level of gain: which I don't prefer: If the guitar signal is smooth - I want it to stay smooth. When I want crunch or grind I like that to be clearly related to the signal I'm inputting, and the GV-2 does a good job of that.

Interestingly (to me), the main reason I looked into this pedal was because I liked the modeled version on the Zoom G3 so much. And comparing them side by side they are very similar: The GV-2 can replicate anything dialed in on the G3, but not visa-versa; the G3 version doesn't have all the tone controls of the GV-2, so its not nearly as flexible. The GV-2 works great in combination with the G3's mod and time effects: which covers all my effects desires for the time being. Plays well with tubes (Fender Blues Jr, Egnater Tweaker) or transistors (Yamaha G100 II).

Haven't tried recording it direct into the DAW to see how it works with software amp models:
That'll be a project for another day.

But wait, there's more! :w00t1000:
This is a great pedal for bass guitar.

With just a touch of gain; its warm and full, a little more and it gets fat and sassy. And next: you're getting into fuzz territory: and what a great pedal it is for fuzz. What makes it so versatile is that it can maintain a solid undistorted low end while you focus the range you want to fuzz with the tone controls. All kinds of fuzz. My favorite setting is to set the deep and mid controls mid control almost entirely down, the treble at about 10 o'clock and the bass somewhere around 1 o'clock. (from 11-3 gives a wide palette - depending on the pickups and how much fuzz is desired). Gain about 12 (10 to 2 is the useful range: above 3 gets flabby). The bass control progressively distorts the low mids so you end up with a fairly unaltered fundamental, fat distorted low mids, attenuated high mids = minimal fizz, with a high end that isn't very distorted. Nice! I was generally of the opinion that fuzz bass sounded like dreck, but now that I can keep the fizz out and it has some stones, its a lot of fun. Of course you can do fizzy or buzzy or punchy as well, depending on how you dial it up: I'm using a 5 string and its nice to have the low end really hanging together with some boost and distortion: like it better with a passive bass than active, so far. I'd keep it just for bass even if I didn't like it for guitar.

I used to be pretty good at math... but that was decades ago :D

The last few times I've had my music lessons, my teacher has asked me what would be a good mathematical treatments of the question...

- How many melodies are possible in one measure?

We both figure it probably has something to do with with permutations and factorials. I also told him that vague memories of an advanced statistics class tell me a thorough treatment of this question could involve complex stats, not just a simple factorial. Why? Because what coud happen in each slice of time depends on the previous slices.

We also agreed you'd have to have some reasonable limitations on the problem statement. So we last talked about allowing only:
- 7 diatonic tones
- No smaller than a 16th note
- Any combination of duration that fits in one measure
- Rests of any duration, no shorter than a 16 rest

FWIW, I thought it would help to think of the rest as one of the 7 tones possibles. That is, make it 8 tones, one being silence.

Anyway, I only did a little googling, and didn't see a good concise mathematical treatment of this for the layperson. Anybody got one?

Cheers,
-- Joe

P.S. It doesn't take long on this problem to realize we don't have to worry about exhausting all the melodies possible in song-writing.

Hey everyone!

Hope you've all been well...

Im getting closer and closer to the rig ive been wanting to put together for the last 8 months. Im the proud owner of a brand new 11R and she just sounds great through my Behringer already and can't wait till im completed with the whole setup.

A few questions first:

- Ive got firmware version 1.0.2 running on a build of 0.5.7.0. I think its pretty old. Is it really worth updating it to the new version and if "yes" how do i go about doing that?

- Ive also heard about the expansion pack. Again how do i get this and update it? Is there a price to pay to get this done?

Lastly, is this the site you guys bought your EurekaPROM chip from:

http://www.eurekasound.com/eurekaprom/configurations/11

- Would the firmware upgrade interfere with the performance of the Eureka chip working in any way?

Thanks for all the help

Jake

I started feeling emotional while reading it.
Something to remember.

A NYC Taxi driver wrote:

I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie.

By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard
box filled with photos and glassware.

'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.

She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.'

'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive
through downtown?'

'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly..

'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice.

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.

'What route would you like me to take?' I asked.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired.Let's go now'.
We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico.

Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move.
They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching into her purse.

'Nothing,' I said

'You have to make a living,' she answered.

'There are other passengers,' I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug.She held onto me tightly.

'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.'

I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut.It was the sound of the closing of a life..

I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day,I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver,or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

SO I've been happy using the Line 6 mic for a while now with only a few issues (occasional dead spots) but then i started using the iPad (yeah, finally got one!) to stream video content and BLAMMO - my wifi network kept dying. After hours of troubleshooting, imagine my shock to discover it was the Line 6 mic operating on the 2.4ghz band in a blast type approach (not really channel specific but instead using multiple channels in this band according to a Line 6 rep on a forum i was visiting).

No matter what I did, after a couple minutes of using the mic alongside the active network, the network shut down. It did so on the laptops connected as well as the iPad so its not an Apple issue. The moment i powered off the mic, all devices showed the network back up and all were connected. The router is a brand new Netgear WNR2000 so its no slouch either. I discovered others having exactly the same issue as well. (http://www.sawstudiouser.com/forums/...p?t-11570.html and notice the Line 6 guy Don Boomer responding to the issue)

Interesting as they chose the main commercial wifi frequency and thought enough to protect THEIR signal but seemed to not think of the consequences of other signals in the area.

Long and short of it - anyone want to buy a like new Line 6 wireless mic?

I've now been playing around with my new rig all day and I feel pretty confident I know enough about it to write a review. My review of the RP1000 will have to wait a bit longer as there's simply loads to delve into there. Anyway, here's my thoughts on the Blackstar HT60 Soloist:

General Sound

As an amp builder, a lot seems to be made of Blackstar's links with Marshall and I'd say this amp has some Marshall DNA but I'd say it's no more than a distant relationship. In terms of the style of footswitch, valves and basic layout, if you've had a Marshall before, you'll be OK with a Blackstar. The use of EL34 valves obviously puts it in the same tonal ballpark but overall I'd say that the tone of a Blackstar is far more modern than any Marshall I've tried. The bass is tighter and the distortion is crisper so under gain, it really does cackle and sizzle in a good way. The general impression is modern and aggressive whereas I'd describe a Marshall as traditional and smooth. Don't get me wrong, the Blackstar isn't harsh at all, but it is more modern than a Marshall. I suppose it may be argued that part of this is the ISF function that allows you to move between British and American voicings but I don't think that's entirely it. I found the ISF feature to be very clever and useful and it certainly has an impact but I have it dialled mostly to the British side and the amp is still noticeably more modern sounding than a Marshall. In a way, it reminds me of the Lead channel on my old H&K Switchblade. That channel was supposed to be voiced as 'British High Gain', so essentially Marshall, but it always retained a distinctly modern edge to it and the Blackstar is the same. The Blackstar is, however, a far brighter amp than the Switchblade because on that amp the Presence control was always dialled right up whereas on the Blackstar, it's dialled right back. It's the same story on the EQ where I'm bringing bass up and knocking the treble back whereas the Switchblade was the opposite.

Build Quality

The amp seems very well put together and looks a smart piece of kit for the price. For a 1X12 combo it is physically big and part of that is due to incorporating side grab handles but it's a handy feature so I can forgive its bulky dimensions. The only thing I don't like about it is that the feet on the bottom of the amp are in just the wrong position for the amp to sit nicely on my amp stand but it seems to have holes available for wheels to be fitted that would be a bit further apart so I may look into doing that.

Clean Channel

Nothing complicated here with just volume and tone controls but it does also have a 'Voice' button that moves it between a 'Boutique' Class A voicing and a 'Modern' Class AB voicing. The difference is quite noticeable and is a very good feature of the amp that adds to its versatility. I'd have to say that the Clean channel is a lot better than I was anticipating. I had assumed that I may end up using the RP1000 amp models for clean tones but I don't think I will now as it's really quite impressive. I'm not claiming it's anything to rival Fender etc. but it is nevertheless good.

Overdrive Channel

The Overdrive channel is very similar in operation to the Clean channel as it has a 'Voice' button that allows it to change from a 'Classic' setting that is tight and crunchy to one that is rather looser, with less power amp feedback. Personally I preferred the 'Classic' voicing but both are perfectly usable and will give you some quality tones. The gain control will take you from a nice crunch to quite impressive levels of gain and I speak as a person who likes gain. The Overdrive channel also has the ISF feature I've already mentioned and a 3-band EQ. There is also a universal Presence control that affects all channels on the amp.

Boost

This is a REALLY useful feature of the amp and perfect for anyone playing solos. What's more, it's extremely effective, providing a significant volume boost when engaged and the amount of boost you get is governed by one simple knob. I love it. This is marketed as a 2 channel amp because the boost feature does nothing other than make things louder but it seems to me that to all practical purposes, this is another channel as in the past, I've always used an extra channel simply to make me louder for solos. 2 channel or not, this feature gives me all I would need from a 3 channel amp anyway and I suspect, all most people would need from a 3 channel amp. What's more, a button on the back of the amp allows you to have it set up so you either boost whatever channel you happen to be in at the time or automatically switch to the boosted overdrive channel even if you were in the Clean channel. Again, I think it indicates a very versatile amp. Also worth mentioning here is the 'Overdrive Body' button that is next to the Boost knob on the front of the amp. When engaged, this provides a mid boost to the Overdrive channel when 'Boost' is selected, adding more sustain.

Reverb

What can I say; it's Reverb and works perfectly well as far as I'm concerned, though it's not something I'm too fussy about so others may be more critical.

Back Panel

The amp has all the usual features you'd expect on an amp like this as well as a couple of thoughtful features. There is a Speaker Emulated Output that can be configured for 1X12 open back or 4X12 closed back sounds. It also has the usual options for extension cabinets if you want to use them. Nice touches on the back panel are a button to move the Reverb between 'Dark' and 'Light' settings and a button that will adjust the effects loop between +4dBV and -10dBV; a feature I find quite useful.

Footswitch

The footswitch has 4 buttons to control both channels, the Boost function and Reverb. All buttons engage easily and it is connected to the amp using a multi-pin plug like you'd find on a PC.

Overall

This is a very impressive amp for the money. It offers a huge amount of versatility in a very practical package and although the 2X12 60w and 100w versions offer more features, I can't say that I'm left wishing this version had those additional features. This 1X12 is more compact and offers everything a guitarist could want. It has enough headroom for most purposes but can still be driven hard enough at gigs. At 60w, this is the most powerful amp I've ever owned but it's not as loud as my 50w Switchblade and believe me, that's no bad thing. You really did need volume on the Switchblade to get it to sing and it was awesome when it did but this one is far better at bedroom levels and at gig volumes you can drive it that bit harder. I am very aware of the fact that if I don't say something bad about this amp, people will simply conclude I'm looking at my new purchase through rose tinted glasses but there really isn't much to find fault with. In an ideal world I would prefer it if it wasn't as bright sounding as it is and high notes weren't quite so cutting. This aspect of the amp undoubtedly gives it a very cutting bottom end but can also make the high end a touch harsh, though it has to be said that a little more playing with the EQ settings may take part of this away. In general I really can't complain at all and I love it. It's an amp I would have no hesitation in recommending to someone else and changing to this amp is not a move I regret at all. In terms of this particular forum, it is worth noting that it works well with multi-FX. The ability to configure the Effects Loop is essential and while amp models aren't as good as this amp's own tone, it does a good job of reproducing a very decent tone and giving the amp models an element of the valve warmth and tone we all crave.
